Today Buffalo finally got measurable snow. It took us until nearly mid-January, but hey, it is finally here. Today is kind of bittersweet. My love of outdoor snow sports is in an eternal conflict with my displeasure for shoveling, being nervous about my wife driving and sliding around, and bitter-cold winds.
Today my excitement got the best of me. Instead of driving the 2.5 miles to work, I strapped on my cross-country skis for the first time this winter and headed out. I was super stoked to see there was enough (or at least in most places) snow to be able to do it.
Really, the most important thing for me today was the fact that I was able to get a pretty intense workout that didn’t aggravate the tendonitis issues that I’ve been having. I have been feeling pretty down about not getting out to run consistently the past couple weeks, so this was just what the doctor ordered. To be perfectly honest, those 2.5 miles were rough. The wind was whipping really hard nearly pushing me over at times. I think I must have burned way more calories than my phone app claims, because I was going dead into the wind nearly the entire time.
I needed this little pick up, in a way I feel rejuvenated and ready to go. I still plan on taking it easy on my foot, but now that I know there is an alternative way to exercise that really feels good, I’m totally game.
Oh, more importantly: woman who stopped her car and asked to take a photo of my skiing, I want a copy of that photo.
On a completely unrelated note, I’ve been working hard on getting the new tracking system up, and I am just working to get user authentication working and I’ll have an alpha release fairly soon that we can start testing out and working out the features. Check back in sometime next week for it!
