One of the biggest challenges in keeping to a training schedule is consistently prioritizing the run or the work out over things that might sound like more fun. I find it difficult to stick to my schedule when my routine changes.

Last week I calmly and rationally made the decision to leave my job in search of a better one. The unplanned nature of this decision could have completely thrown my life off track, but instead of freaking out and shutting down, I headed to the treadmill to clear my head and kept on moving. Instead of allowing the change in routine to be an excuse to abandon my efforts for better health, I made sure that running was the one thing in my day that wouldn’t change.

In terms of my training to be in 10k shape, I’ve been doing really well! All of my distances have been completed on schedule (except for yesterday–brew tour instead, oops!). I’m feeling better about running than I ever have before. I’m heading to the gym now to make up yesterday’s run, which was planned to be three miles. It’s nuts to think that today I’m running the distance I cried and screamed that I couldn’t, and really believed it, just two and a half weeks ago at the Turkey Trot.
