This is going to be a short Monday check-in because due to a rather unfortunate grocery store sushi incident, I am not feeling well today.

The past week I’ve been trying to recover from last week’s frustration. I was very careful all week and have been feeling really good about my progress.

Last week Jon reviewed My Fitness Pal, a website and mobile app that helps you track calories in and out. I have been using it for a little over a week now, and I have to say I really love it. I have it on my phone and everytime I eat something I log it in. I find it really helpful because not only does it track calories, it tracks nutrition. I get to see what I am eating in terms of what my body needs. Anyone who tells me I’m not getting enough protein, is just wrong. I have the numbers to prove it! So I’ve kept to a 1200 calorie diet the past week and completely cut out “school-night” drinking. I’m pretty proud of myself.

What I’ve noticed most of all is I’ve changed how I’ve been looking at diet changes and the scope of weight-loss. I’ve always looked at losing weight in terms of weeks. “I want to lose two pounds this week,” or “I have to be good this week.” Because of that, I tend to have good and bad days, that build up to a good or bad week. Being good all week was always my excuse to let a little loose on the weekend, because at the end of the week, I figured it would all even out. What I’ve realized this week, is that it’s much more effective to literally take one day at a time. Don’t allow yourself to have a bad day, limit yourself to a bad meal. I’ve started balancing out my days, instead of my weeks. And in the end, this is the much more effective way to diet. If each day is under a microscope, each week will add up to great results. It has made me realize that I actually can’t rationalize that cookie!
